A few days ago, I had to create an assignment using Matlab. The assignment was to predict the distribution of the value of the product and accept a specific range. First I went online and searched for tutorials that provided help for my assignment. Then I searched for tutorials that provided Matlab instructions. Finally, I looked for user-created tutorials that provided Matlab programming help online.
My Matlab project ran for three days without much difficulty. It was mostly due to my lack of previous experience in Matlab. Previously, I used Mathematica for most of my projects. Matlab is similar to Metropolis-style grid drawing tool but is more interactive. Many of the functions are similar to those in Mathematica, but the interface in Matlab is cleaner and more user friendly. Also, Matlab comes with a large number of demos and web link resources which can be used for creating projects and creating worksheets.
After I had already used Matlab for my assignments, I found out that the function to predict the mean and standard deviation was not really the feature that I wanted. I needed something that could generate the range smoothest. Luckily, it was found in Matlab itself. This function is called Smooth Average. It was added to the basic package of Matlab in 2021. It can be found under the “eka” package.
After I completed my first assignment, I started to wonder if I had learnt everything I needed to know about working with Matlab. Was this really the case? How come my online tutor had taught me only the basics? Did I have a learning disability? I wondered if I should continue with my online Matlab assignments or take them to a real classroom?
At first, my tutor tried to give me Matlab DVDs to watch. This was fine for a while, but then I realized that they were not available yet in English or Spanish. They also did not explain anything in English, which was a bit troubling. So I searched for online Spanish language videos using Google. I managed to find several videos from Spanish courses which gave quite helpful tips and instructions, as well as explanations for some of the concepts in Matlabs assignments.
During my second assignment, I decided that it would be much better to create my own documentation in English using the Online Help application. With this simple tool, you can easily create documents that include code and screenshots for your assignment, in a language that everyone can understand. The Online Help in Matlab gives you the option of choosing the person who will help you with your assignment (if you need any). It also allows you to set reminders to contact your tutor or your instructor so that they can see how many assignments you have left for the day.
I also found it quite convenient to be able to make notes in Spanish on the Online Help page. Not only can you do this using your webcam, but you also have the option of writing them on paper as well! This is especially useful if you are in a class and cannot be in your classroom to receive help from your Spanish teacher. Not only will you still be able to receive your assignments through your webcam, but you will also have an Online Help file where you can write in Spanish and receive instant suggestions from your instructor.
So overall, the online course has been very helpful for me. It has allowed me to continue with my main course while learning more about my second assignment on the side.
